UWM Garland Hall
Milwaukee, Wisconsin

This project consisted of corrective foundation drainage work at three classroom buildings at the UW-Milwaukee campus. Garland Hall, Johnston Hall, and Holton Hall are nineteenth century structures that have had the basements, which were originally storage areas, converted to classrooms and offices. These below-grade spaces had been experiencing flooding for several years. The goal of the project was to examine the existing conditions, identify areas of water intrusion, and find solutions to eliminate water problems. During the course of the project, floors were trenched, walls were removed, drain tile and catch basins were installed, sump pumps were located, walls and floors were reinstalled, and interior finishes were replaced. The project, phased over the summer recess, included tuck pointing masonry porches at Garland and Holton Halls.
